My heart is steadfast, O God. Psalm 57.7.
Study God’s Word and meditate on it. Just as a tree can stand strong if it has deep roots, we can remain firm if our faith is deeply rooted in God’s Word. As a tree grows, its roots grow deeper and spread farther. When we study and meditate, we strengthen our faith and deepen our conviction that God’s ways are best.
[Quotation] Colossians 2.6 and 7: Therefore, just as you have accepted Christ Jesus the Lord, go on walking in union with him, 7 being rooted and built up in him and being stabilized in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving. [End Quotation]
Reflect on how Jehovah’s instruction, guidance, and protection helped his servants in times past. For example, Ezekiel paid close attention as an angel took detailed measurements of the visionary temple. This vision strengthened Ezekiel, and it provides us with practical lessons about how we can uphold Jehovah’s standards for pure worship.
[Quotation] Ezekiel 40.1 through 4: In the 25th year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the 14th year after the city had fallen, on that very day the hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he took me to the city. 2 By means of visions from God, he brought me to the land of Israel and set me down on a very high mountain, on which there was a structure like a city to the south. 3 When he brought me there, I saw a man whose appearance was like that of copper. He had a flax cord and a measuring reed in his hand, and he was standing in the gateway. 4 The man said to me: “Son of man, look closely, listen carefully, and pay attention to everything I show you, for that is why you were brought here. Tell the house of Israel everything that you see.” [End Quotation]
[Quotation] Ezekiel 43.10 through 12: “As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel, so that they will feel ashamed because of their errors, and they should study its plan. 11 If they feel ashamed of all they have done, you should make known to them the ground plan of the temple, its arrangement, its exits, and its entrances. Show them all its ground plans and its statutes, its ground plans and its laws, and write them down before their eyes, so that they may observe all its ground plan and carry out its statutes. 12 This is the law of the temple. The entire territory all around the top of the mountain is most holy. Look! This is the law of the temple. [End Quotation]
We also benefit when we take time to study about and meditate on the deeper things of God’s Word. We can have a steadfast heart, trusting fully in Jehovah.
[Quotation] Psalm 112.7: He will not fear bad news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in Jehovah. [End Quotation]

4.28 They lived in Beer-sheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual,
4.29 Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad,
4.30 Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag,

4.32 Their settlements were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities,
4.33 along with their settlements that were all around these cities as far as Baal. These were their genealogical enrollments and the places where they lived.

4.39 And they went to the entrance of Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to look for pastures for their flocks.
4.40 They eventually found rich and good pastures, and the land was spacious, quiet, and undisturbed. Those who previously lived there were Hamites.
4.41 These whose names are listed came during the days of King Hezekiah of Judah and struck down the tents of the Hamites and the Meunim who were there. They devoted them to destruction down to this day; and they settled in their place because there were pastures for their flocks there.
4.42 Some of the Simeonites, 500 men, went to Mount Seir with Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi who led them.
4.43 And they struck down the rest of the Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there down to this day.
5.1 These are the sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn. He was the firstborn, but because he defiled the bed of his father, his right as firstborn was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so he was not enrolled genealogically for the right of the firstborn.
5.2 Though Judah was superior to his brothers and from him came the one to be the leader, the right as firstborn belonged to Joseph.
5.3 The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.
5.4 The sons of Joel were Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son,
5.5 Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son,
5.6 and Beerah his son, whom King Tilgath-pilneser of Assyria took into exile; he was a chieftain of the Reubenites.
5.7 His brothers by their families in the genealogical enrollment by their descendants were, as the head, Jeiel, Zechariah,
5.8 and Bela son of Azaz son of Shema son of Joel, who lived in Aroer and as far as Nebo and Baal-meon.
5.9 To the east he settled as far as the beginning of the wilderness at the Euphrates River, for their livestock had become numerous in the land of Gilead.
5.10 In the days of Saul, they waged war against the Hagrites, who were defeated before them, so they dwelled in their tents throughout all the territory east of Gilead.
5.11 Now the descendants of Gad lived next to them in the land of Bashan as far as Salecah.
5.12 Joel was the head, Shapham the second, and Janai and Shaphat in Bashan.
5.13 And their brothers belonging to their paternal houses were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia, and Eber, seven in all.
5.14 These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri son of Jaroah son of Gilead son of Michael son of Jeshishai son of Jahdo son of Buz.
5.15 Ahi son of Abdiel son of Guni was head of their paternal house.
5.16 They lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its dependent towns, and in all the pastures of Sharon as far as they extended.
5.17 They were all enrolled genealogically in the days of King Jotham of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam of Israel.
5.18 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 mighty warriors in their army who carried shields and swords and were armed with bows, and they were trained in war.
5.19 They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab.
5.20 And they were helped in fighting them, so that the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hand, for they called to God for help in the war, and he responded to their entreaty because they trusted in him.
5.21 They captured their livestock—50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, and 2,000 donkeys—as well as 100,000 people.
5.22 Many had fallen slain, because the war was waged by the true God. And they lived in their place until the time of the exile.
5.23 The descendants of the half tribe of Manasseh lived in the land from Bashan to Baal-hermon and Senir and Mount Hermon. They were numerous.
5.24 These were the heads of their paternal houses: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel; they were mighty warriors, men of fame, and heads of their paternal houses.
5.25 But they acted unfaithfully toward the God of their forefathers and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had annihilated from before them.
5.26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of King Pul of Assyria (that is, King Tilgath-pilneser of Assyria) so that he took into exile those of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the river Gozan, where they are until this day.
